Turbocharged Ferrari Roma Drives the Sweet Life

The Ferrari Roma is going on tour around Australia. Over the next six months, the new V8 coupé will be on display across a series of pop-up events taking place at Ferrari dealerships across Australia and New Zealand. So far, COVID-19 hasn’t affected Ferrari’s plans to showcase the new vehicle alongside luxury food and drinks in a care-free atmosphere inspired by the ‘La Nuova Dolce Vita’ (the sweet life) ethos of the 1950s-60s Rome.

That’s about all the info we have regarding the events, but we do know plenty about the Roma, so let’s take a closer look:

The Ferrari Roma houses a turbocharged V8 that puts out 620hp, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaching top speed at 320km/h. The new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox is said to reduce fuel consumption and emissions over previous models with faster and smoother shifting. Ferrari says the throttle response is almost instantaneous thanks to the turbocharger.

Roma’s design took inspiration from the celebrated grand touring Ferraris of the 1960s and the fastback coupé. An overhanging shark nose defines the front. The wide front bonnet and wings flow into one another, in line with Ferrari’s traditional styling cues. There are no air vents. The designers sought a minimal appearance and created a new front grille. The two full-LED headlights are traversed by a horizontal light strip.

Moving to the rear, the active spoiler is integrated into the screen. Twin taillights are complemented by light strips. Unlike the front, the rear’s design is quite modern.

Inside the vehicle, Ferrari’s dual Cockpit concept lead to two spaces or ‘cells’ separated by a large centre console. The idea was to make the passenger feel more like a co-pilot than a bystander. The cockpit’s overall character is said to balance elegance and sportiness.

The classic-styled gear lever is set in the centre console in a contemporary metal plate. This element is angled to make it easier for the driver to reach and see. Materials used include full-grain Frau leather, Alcantara, chromed aluminium and carbon-fibre. The result is a distinctive, luxury feel.

The 16-inch digital instrument cluster extends out naturally from the dash and is curved, making it easier to read. The new steering wheel introduces a series of multi-touch controls that allow the driver to control any aspect of the car without ever taking their hands off the wheel. An intuitive 8.4-inch HD central display is set between the two cockpits and features infotainment, sat-nav and climate control functions.

“Ferrari Roma reflects a uniquely Italian lifestyle, offering an extraordinary experience of understated luxury and elegance,” said Dieter Knechtel, President of Ferrari Far East and Middle East Hub. “This new model is truly Ferrari, perfectly balancing performance, innovation, technology, driving pleasure and design.”

The Ferrari Roma will be available right around Australia before too long with prices starting at AUD$409,888. A new convertible “Spider” model has also joined the range as of March 2023, replacing the Portofino M.. Scroll down to see more.
