It’s never too early to introduce kids to just how awesome the automotive world can be—at least, that seems to be what LEGO thinks. Their new Speed Champions series is a collection of “authentic, buildable cars from iconic brands such as Bugatti, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsports, plus all-new Ferrari, Ford and Porsche models.”
The 2019 line adds Mini Coopers and Dodge muscle cars. The line features brick versions of classic cars, sports cars, endurance cars, iconic cars, and race cars. They also come with dioramas and other accessories as well as minifigs.
The line was first introduced in 2015. Geared toward builders of all ages, the line represents a partnership with Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche. Each year, LEGO changed up the color themes of the boxes, which was also reflected in the models.
In 2019, the cars that will be released include a McLaren Senna; a Ferrari F40 Competizione, which comes with extra parts to convert the car to the standard road-going version; a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, both of which come with functional Christmas Tree drag lights; a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 race car with a driver figure, adjustable roll cage, and removable windshield; and a 19767 Cooper S Rally and 2018 MINI John Cooper Works Buggy.
There’s also a Bugatti Chiron, a Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC, a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, a Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa, a 21016 Ford GT and 1966 Fort GT40, a Porsche 919 Hybrid, a Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0, and a Mercedes-AMG GT3. You can also pick up the Ferrari Ultimate Garage kit.
So if you’ve got a future mechanic or race car driver in your family, you might want to consider getting them started on their collection of Speed Champions—there are plenty of options out there.
