Arnold Schwarzenegger loves kicking butts and the official trailer for FUBAR, Netflix’s upcoming spy-comedy/adventure series starring the Terminator actor, proves this very well. With TV shows and streaming platforms gaining more traction than movies, several prominent film stars have begun transitioning to smaller screens to keep themselves occupied and relevant at the same time. Even action legend and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is making the jump to television to star in his first-ever scripted TV series.
Netflix’s FUBAR is an action-comedy series that sees Schwarzenegger’s Luke, a retired CIA operative, returning back into the field for one final time to extract another operative and a dangerous weapon from a remote location. However, things take a turn when Luke finds out that the CIA agent he’s sent to rescue is none other than his daughter, Emma, played by Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro. Emma keeping her job a secret sends Luke in somewhat of a shock and the pair soon realizes that “their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all.” Despite all the differences, the father-daughter duo will need to work together to get the job done.
The official trailer for FUBAR opens up with our hero, Luke, who’s in the middle of an enemy interrogation. Despite seemingly having no weapons on him, Schwarzenegger’s Luke manages to kill all the adversaries before riding off into the night on his motorcycle. This is followed by Luke saying that he’s “done” with being a CIA agent and is ready to retire. In another shot, we even hear his coworker remark, “You are officially retired,” while another asks, “How are you gonna spend your golden years?”
Luckily for Luke, he has his retirement plans all chalked out as he intends to spend more time with his family. We get to see a brief shot of the father-daughter duo which is followed by Luke’s voiceover, saying, “Now, since I’m retired, I’m gonna win my wife back.” But his retirement is relatively momentary and he is asked to return to his duties to rescue an operative, who goes by the codename Panda. One of the agents briefs him about the mission, saying, “You zip in, extract Panda, grab the WMD (weapon of mass destruction), zip on out.” After arriving at the rescue location, he soon discovers that Panda is, in fact, his daughter which leads to him exclaiming, “Holy s—, my daughter’s in the CIA?”
We hear Emma responding, “What the f—?”, to which Luke instantly says, “Language!” Typical dad stuff here! Once Emma realizes that her dad won’t go without her, she lays out the plan, saying, “I know where the WMDs are stored, so follow me or get out of my way.” However, Luke still deals with her “like a child” especially when he discovers she has “alcohol, cigarettes and a garnish lipstick.” We see Luke stepping in to protect his daughter when the duo is under attack and fighting off their assailants after she was shot in her “violin arm.”
Despite the apparent differences between Luke and Emma, the trailer ends with Emma revealing that everything she has ever learned is because of and from her father. She says, “I’ve learned a ton from working with my dad, how he leads the team, how he keeps his cool, how to slit a man’s throat vertically so he bleeds out faster.” It seems like things might not be that bad for the father-daughter duo after all. Besides Monica and Schwarzenegger, the cast for the eight-episode spy comedy also includes Jay Baruchel, Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Gabriel Luna, Andy Buckley, Aparna Brielle, Barbara Eve Harris and Fabiana Udenio.
FUBAR is executive produced by Schwarzenegger alongside creator and showrunner Nick Santora, Adam Higgs, Scott Sullivan and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost. The series is produced by Skydance Television and Blackjack Films. So get ready to witness Schwarzenegger in full action in his first TV series ever when FUBAR hits Netflix on May 25.
