The Nike Amarillo Kyrie 1 Low Yellow Colorway shoe is the next in a lineup of colorful imaginations from NBA star Kyrie Irving. Irving, who plays for the Boston Celtics, isn’t content making a name for himself on the court alone. After starring in the movie Uncle Drew, you might think he’d have accomplished enough. But no, instead, Irving is pressing forward with his signature line of basketball shoes with Nike.
Irving’s approach is beyond creative, taking inspiration from often mundane sources. For instance, his “cereal” pack consisted of shoes inspired by classic cereals Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Kix. Amarillo, Kyrie’s new design is a littlereminiscent of his 2016 shoe, Australia. It’s also a revisit to the color scheme of his black and yellow School Bus shoe. Amarillo features a white and black sole topped by a yellow upper that has a band of black across it thanks to the strap that covers the mid foot. The white Nike swoosh on the inside of the foot, which sits opposite the black swoosh on the other side, breaks up the yellow and black, but rather than distracting from the original idea, it ties the shoe together, complementing the design as a whole. The heel and strap both feature a raised diamond pattern for increased texture.
Considering the source material for Irving’s shoes, it will be interesting to see what the basketball player and shoe designer comes up with next.
