“Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, Adapt (ISPA)”—that’s what Nike’s “ISPA” stands for, and the line has done plenty to help transform Nike’s shoes into more utilitarian versions.
Nike Air was the latest to undergo the ISPA treatment, becoming the Nike Air Max 720 ISPA sneakers. With the mission of making your daily walking that much more comfortable, the sneakers have plenty to offer.
The 720 ISPAs feature an upper that has been completely transformed, using an upgraded synthetic and mesh material. The upper is split asymmetrically, pushing the tongue to one side. The midsole is more bulbous, squeezing out from under the shoe and providing a bit of a view at the internal workings.
On the heel of the midsole, you’ll find a graphic that warns “Contains High Pressure Nitrogen.” The outsole has also received a workover with cleat-like nodules that make this sneaker look like it’s ready for any terrain. The shoe is adorned with a riveted look and has circular mesh openings for increased ventilation.
The 720 ISPAs come in two colourways. The first is a mix of black and reflect silver with orange accents. The second makes use of Nike’s summit white with black and white. The accents for this shoe are blue.
Nike’s ISPA program “focuses on improving interaction with the environment,” especially for those people who have a commute that involves walking three to five miles a day. If that’s you’re daily plight, then you know how important a comfortable pair of shoes are. The ISPA version of the Nike Air Max 720 sneakers seem to fit that bill—from the cushiony sole to the breathable upper.
