Straddling the respective arenas of horology and motorsport, TAG Heuer’s original Monaco first dropped in 1969 and has remained an avant-garde legend ever since. Bolstered by a distinct design and brilliant mechanics, the watch and its numerous incarnations truly capture the revolutionary essence of the TAG Heuer brand. Indeed, what was once good enough for Steve McQueen is as extraordinary today as it was decades ago. It’s then no surprise that TAG Heuer is making a big deal of the iconic model’s 50th anniversary.
To celebrate 50 years of Monaco, TAG Heuer is hosting a series of events in Europe, the US, and Asia throughout 2019. At each event, the brand will unveil new versions of the original classic. That comes joined by the release of a new book, Paradoxical Superstar, which dives into Monaco’s history and technical achievements, among other things.
We don’t have pictures of the new Monacos just yet, but in the meantime, we’ve thrown up a handful of previous models (including the groundbreaking 1969 original). As for the book, it will be available in TAG Heuer boutiques and on the brand’s website starting May of this year. Happy birthday, Monaco!
