Nike Joyride Trainers Feel Like “Running on Bubbles”

Nike Joyride is the latest footwear innovation from the sporting giant engineered to help keep legs fresh by delivering high impact absorption in a surprisingly light, energy-returning package. Thousands of beads are encased directly underfoot, creating a dynamic footbed that forms to the foot and expands in all directions adapting to individual footstrikes.

Nike Joyride exists to make running easier for everyone from elites to everyday joggers and at the same time could be the most personalised cushioning found within a shoe.

The beads are placed within zonally-tuned pods. The heel pod is bigger to absorb impact while pods at the forefoot are prepared to facilitate a smooth transition forward.

Nike trialled one hundred and fifty materials before settling on a TPE for the beads. TPE is a polymer made from plastic and rubber. The pods are engineered to stop the beads from migrating too much around the foot. There are eight thousand beads per shoe, and Nike says they create a unique sensation that is “almost like running on bubbles.”

The innovative beads are paired with Nike Flyknit technology, which is a well-established material that uses high-strength fibres to create lightweight uppers with targeted areas of support, stretch and breathability.

The Nike Joyride Run Flyknit will be available in Australia on August 15 for $250 per pair via Nike stores and online. At launch, Joyride will be available in five colourways: white, red, blue, pink and black.

In other Nike footwear news, the Metcon 5 trainers are both new and familiar. Plus, Pegasus Trail 36 goes off-road.
