After teasing the watch across their Instagram, Swatch Group has officially unveiled the OMEGA x Swatch ‘Mission To Moonshine Gold‘. Set to release for one day only in Tokyo, Zürich, Milan, and London on 7th March at 7 PM local time.
While it’s far from the renderings shared online that hinted at an 18k yellow gold case – similar to that created by OMEGA in 2019 for its stellar OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition – what we have instead is a homage to the ‘Mission to the Moon’ from last year. Nonetheless, this remains one very exciting release and will surely become the most highly sought-after piece of the collection.

When the MoonSwatch was released in March of 2022 it caused chaos at stores around the world. We documented the scenes in Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre, where queues were forming well before the Swatch store was set to open. It was the same story in Sydney, where the Pitt Street boutique was flooded with watch fans, eager to snag a bargain Speedmaster before the limited allocation was exhausted.
This time around, Australians will miss out on the OMEGA x Swatch ‘Mission To Moonshine Gold’ as it’s released for one day only in Tokyo, Zürich, Milan, and London on 7th March at 7 PM local time. There will be no online release.
In terms of specs, they’ll stay the same for the ‘Mission To Moonshine Gold’ with the same BIOCERAMIC case material and classic Speedmaster look. The subdials are blacked out, while the most notable change is the chronograph seconds hand that’s been treated to a coating of Omega Moonshine gold made from the recycled gold at Swatch Group’s refinery.
According to OMEGA, 18K Moonshine Gold is “inspired by the shining moonlight in a dark blue sky,” offering “a distinctively paler hue than traditional 18K yellow gold and high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time. Its unique composition includes silver, copper and palladium for colour and stability.”
We’re not one for gimmicks, but each second’s hand was produced under a full moon in the month of February and is documented in the production certificate found in each box (see below). The cities that were chosen for this exclusive release also align with gold. For example, London is where the global price of gold is fixed and Zürich was chosen due to the banks and gold reserves.
How many OMEGA x Swatch ‘Mission To Moonshine Gold’ will be available? In the words of Swatch “not enough.” They did hint that more limited-edition exclusives as we see here could release under another full Moon. Cryptic as ever then!
