Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Goes Bronze For the First Time
Swiss watchmaker Tudor has been exploring its options when it comes to materials used in making their high-end watches. Recently, the luxury watch brand released a ceramic version of their 41mm Black Bay, with silver and gold coming out before that. Now they’re plying their trade with bronze, creating the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze to go along with the steel versions already available. While the temptation may be to point to the Olympics as a reason for the bronze approach, the inspiration was actually the “bronzes on old ships and other deep-sea diving equipment.”

Tudor already has a five-year background of working with an aluminium bronze alloy. This same bronze is being used for both the case and the bracelet. The bronze will patina over time, becoming a unique watch based on the wearer. Tudor has exact specifications that help the metal to age slowly and in a homogenous patina without the green that you often see from bronze.
The dial is a shaded matte brown encompassed by a brown anodised-aluminium bezel. The case measures 39mm and houses the automatic MT5400 Tudor movement. The movement boasts a 70-hour power reserve and 200 meters of water resistance. The chronometer is certified by COSC. The indices and the numerals, as well as the Tudor-signature “snowflake” hands, are lume filled.
In addition to the new material, the new Fifty-Eight comes with a new clasp featuring a redesigned cover and the Tudor “T-fit” rapid adjustment system. The new clasp allows you to adjust the bracelet into five different positions. The watch also comes with a fabric strap if you prefer. The new Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight in Bronze is available through select Tudor boutiques and is priced at $4,525. The watch is available on a non-limited basis. However, it may not be too long before Tudor moves on to a new material, so don’t wait to pick up one of these bronze beauties.
