Man of Many’s Staff Favourites – 30 November 2024

With Sydney copping a battering of humid weather and storms, summer has well and truly arrived early and we’re trying to make the most of it. The Man of Many team has been indoors all week trying to put the finishing touches on the year before we all step out of the office and into a few hard-earned days off. Before then, however, there is still work to be done and it starts with our weekly Staff Favourites round-up.

Rodenbach Fruitage

Nick Hall – Editor-in-Chief

With the warmer weather making its presence felt this week, stouts, porters and warm drams of whisky are certainly on the way out for me. The change in seasons calls for something a little cooler and refreshing, and this week has belonged to Rodenbach Fruitage. A strange fusion of flavours, Rodenbach Fruitage is not quite a beer, not quite a cocktail, but something perfectly in the middle. It is made from a blend of aged ale, young ale and seven per cent cherries, which gives it its sweet-sourness that is ideal for sour beer drinkers like me. Try something different this summer and crack a can of Rodenbach Fruitage.

R.M. Williams Islet Moccasin Boat Shoe

Scott Purcell – Co-Founder

If you’re sick of your plain white sneakers to wear with jeans or slacks over summer, and you’re looking for something a little more classy, you might want to check out these Islet Mocassins from R.M. Wiliams. They’re a versatile style for any summer occasion and are built with premium leather, a stitched rubber sole and durable leather laces. One thing I was pretty surprised to learn when researching them was that they are made in Portugal. Here I was thinking that all R.M. Williams shoes were made in Australia but I’m still sure their elastic-sided Chelsea boot are all made domestically.

Gildas x The Glendronach

John Guanzon – Head of Social

Ok whisky fans, come up close. You may have seen The Glendronach popping up a lot recently in light of its recent brand relaunch in Australia this year, and I, for one, am glad it’s getting the newfound attention it deserves. The Glendronach is currently collaborating with Lennox Hastie’s Surry Hills wine bar, Gildas, hosting an exclusive pintxo and whisky pairing menu, launched during International Sherry Week.

The collaboration pairs The Glendronach’s exceptional sherry-aged whiskies with Gildas’ refined Pintxo menu, and the results are nothing short of spectacular. While I sadly didn’t get to taste Gildas’ Head Chef, Zach Elliott-Crenn’s culinary creations, I did have the chance to pop in for dessert and the signature “Ronnie” cocktail, featuring The Glendronach 12-Year-Old, Campari, grapefruit and Cava. Mind-blowingly good! This unique collaboration presents a culinary homage to Basque country and cheers to sherry-aged whisky and I’m all about it.

Steelseries Arctis GameBuds

Dean Blake – Journalist – Tech, Entertainment & Features

If you’re looking for a new set of earbuds, and you like to play games of the video variety, I’d heartily recommend the recently released Steelseries Arctis GameBuds. I’ve been using them as my daily earphones for the past few weeks and they’ve been an excellent replacement for my now-dead Pixel Buds – with a little bit of tweaking.

The Arctis Buds don’t have touch controls of any kind: instead, the left and right bud can be pushed in to act as two individual buttons to help control your music, turn on ANC, etc. They also have a feature that is meant to switch audio off when you remove an earbud, but it was falsely triggering and turning my audio off constantly.

You can, however, disable that entire feature in the Arctis app, which now means my music, podcasts, or videos play perfectly – though no longer stop when I take an earbud out.

The main advantage of these earbuds compared to others, though, is that it comes with a dedicated wireless USB-C dongle which enables the Arctis Buds to deliver audio over a 2.4Ghz channel, rather than Bluetooth, making it faster and more reliable for gaming. Just plug the dongle into your kit and the earphones will work immediately. It makes switching between listening to my phone and jumping onto my PC much easier.

Tronque Skincare

Beatrix Boon – Social Content Producer

This week, I’m picking two skincare products from Tronque, a New Zealand company with an emphasis on plant-based wellness. The products I’m specifically talking about are the ‘Vitamin C Body Oil’ and ‘Firming Butter’. The oil is rich, extremely nourishing and makes you feel like you’re definitely doing something after the glow it gives you. The butter is decadent and indulgent and smells amazing. The blend of shea, cacao and mango leaves you smelling incredible all night long. I’m also eager to see results from the niacinamide, squalane and hyaluronic acid after prolonged use. The vibe is ‘bougie’ this week thanks to these new products!
