Aussie streamer Stan is rolling into December with a steady slate of content across TV and film alike. The Channel Nine-backed streamer is dropping some big hitters this month, including Will Forte-led Stan Original Sunny Nights, both The Shining and Doctor Sleep, as well as the highly-anticipated final parts of Revealed: Death Cap Murders.

Surprisingly, not a lot of Christmas cheer here this month, though honestly you’re probably getting enough of that elsewhere. Instead, Stan is giving you some solid selections to check out throughout December. We’re not complaining!

Here’s everything coming your way on Stan in December 2025.

Best New Series on Stan

New series launches are the reason we come to Stan in the first place, and this month, the streaming service doesn’t disappoint. Here are the best new series on Stan for this month.

Revealed: Death Cap Murders, Part 2 & 3

Release Date: 7 December

If you’ve been living under a rock, you probably missed one of the biggest trials in Australian history: the sentencing of Erin Patterson, who was found guilty of murdering a number of family members by serving them beef wellingtons laced with death cap mushrooms. Well, this month Stan is delivering the final two parts of its 3-part look into the case against Patterson, blending interviews with court reporters, key witnesses, and medical professionals with a documentary-style deep dive into the case.

While Part 1 largely laid the ground work for the case, in Part 2 we’ll see more of Patterson’s efforts to conceal the crime, as well as her lack of empathy. In the final part, Patterson will take the stand to explain herself before the court – of course, we kinda already know how that’ll go.

Sunny Nights

Release Date: 26 December

A bit of a rare and random one, Sunny Nights is dropping its entire first season on Boxing Day – as if we’re not all going to be locked in on the cricket. Still, if you’re looking for a sort-of local story of two siblings, Martin and Vicki (played by Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden), as they attempt to kick off a new sunscreen brand in Australia.

Unfortunately, they accidentally get tangled up in Sydney’s criminal underworld, and everything gets more complicated from there. If you’re a fan of Forte and Carden (and why wouldn’t you be), there’ll be plenty to like here.

Best New Movies on Stan

This December, Stan is dropping a solid slate of quality movies for your enjoyment. Whether you’re looking for thrills, spills, or some comedy shrills, the best new movies on Stan offer a little something for everyone. Here are all of the movies coming to Stan this month.

The Shining

Release Date: 10 December

One of the quintessentially classic psychological-horror flicks, Director Stanley Kubrick took Steven King’s classic 1977 house-bound horror tale and amped up the tension, delivering something that has aged like a fine wine. Laced with hidden and deeper meanings, The Shining is more or less one of the greatest horror movies ever made (even if King doesn’t like how much was changed from the original), and it does it at a slow, yet methodical, clip.

As is customary for most of King’s leads, Jack Torrens is a struggling writer and an alcoholic plagued by his inner demons. In an effort to finish his latest manuscript, he takes up the winter caretaker role for the Overlook Hotel – a historical hotel hidden deep in the mountains – and brings his wife Wendy and son Danny along for the ride. But when the isolation starts to wear on the family, the dark corners of the Overlook Hotel start to take hold of Jack’s mind.

If you’re a big fan of the film, I can also recommend the documentary about the film, Room 237 if you haven’t already watched it.

Doctor Sleep

Release Date: 10 December

Steven King delivered a follow-up to his version of The Shining in Doctor Sleep in 2013: a sequel that largely focuses on Danny Torrens, and his mysterious psychic powers. And, in 2019, horror director Mike Flanagan had the unenviable task of delivering that tale to the big screen, while also finding a way to bridge the gap between Kurbick’s arguably more well known interpretation of King’s original novel.

Well, Flanagan did a pretty good job, all things considered, and Doctor Sleep delivers both a sequel and a coda to the Torren’s family’s struggles. While The Shining was a mediation on alcoholism, Doctor Sleep is King’s take on rehabilitation and recovery – charting a better course for the now 40-something year-old Danny. It’s worth watching if you’re a fan of the original, and even better that both films are hitting Stan in one day!

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Release Date: 28 December

The seventh movie in the wildly successful Conjuring universe, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is based a murder trial in the 1980s where a man, who had killed his landlord, claimed that he had been possessed by a demon. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it didn’t fly well at court, and he was sent to prison. In the world of The Conjuring, though, it makes for a spooky, shlocky take on a court room drama filled with cults, witches, curses, and (spoilers) demons!

Don’t be afraid, though! Husband-and-wife demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warrens are on the case, diving deep to the defence of the accused, Arne Johnson, who just swears he doesn’t remember stabbing his landlord 22 times. If you’re looking a holiday movie with more jump scares than The Shining or Doctor Sleep, The Conjuring has you covered.

Things to Consider for Stan

When it comes to choosing what to watch on Stan, the options are vast, but it all starts with a membership. If you want to make the most of your subscription, watch new movies or score great deals on the latest flicks, consider these factors.

Cost

If you are wondering how much Stan costs in Australia, then we have you covered. A Subscription to the streaming service Stan will set you back AUD$12 per month for a basic package. There are different tiers, however, with a middle-range subscription plan priced at AUD$16 per month, while the premium option costs AUD$21 per month. The top-tier plan will allow you to:

  • Stream four screens at once
  • Connect up to five different devices
  • Access 4K Ultra HD

For the sports fans amongst us, Stan also offers a $15 add-on for Stan Sport. This is the only place to see rugby union and UEFA leagues live, ad-free and on-demand.

Australian Only

Stan is only available in Australia. The platform is owned and operated by an Australian entity, which enters into nationwide broadcasting agreements with different distribution companies. Essentially, this means that Stan will be blocked outside of the country.
