Australia’s most iconic winemaker is taking its talents to new heights, quite literally. Penfolds has announced an ‘intergalactic’ wine experience in celebration of the new Penfolds Collection 2022 release. Set to unfurled at an out-of-this-world event at Sydney‘s Carriageworks from August 4-6, the Venture Beyond project will take drinkers and patrons through a bold new era for the heritage producer.

Looking at the event from the outside, Penfolds isn’t messing around. The winemaker has tapped Aussie music legends Client Liaison for performances across the three nights, with international DJ Dan Lywood, the man responsible for the soundtracks for Chanel, Givenchy and Vivienne Westwood’s runway shows, on the decks. From there, guests will be treated to a one-of-a-kind space-themed menu curated by world-renowned Australian chef Nelly Robinson. The visionary behind nel. Restaurant and the infamous KFC Degustation menu, Nelly is dishing out an interstellar gastromy experience that we are equal parts excited for and confused by.
Completing the sensory overload is a short film created by design-driven art collective, Babekühl. The visual piece will chronicle Penfolds’ unique winemaking process, highlighting the ambitious cross-hemisphere approach to the 2022 Collection. According to chief marketing officer, Kristy Keyte, the immersive event is all part of Penfold’s global repositioning efforts.
The introduction of ’Venture Beyond’ as our global thematic is a strategic shift for Penfolds from ‘fine wine’ brand to ‘global luxury icon’,” Keyte said. “‘Venture Beyond’ personifies our innovative spirit and desire to push the boundaries through self-belief. After seeing this concept come to life in Bangkok in July, we look forward to welcoming guests to this unique experience in Australia, followed by other markets around the globe including Hong Kong and Shanghai.”

For those looking to be part of the fun, there is good news. Tickets for Penfolds Venture Beyond are available to the public and include food by Chef Nel, along with three glasses of newly-released wines from The Penfolds Collection 2022. The wines up for tasting are the Australian Bin 28 Shiraz 2020, the Californian Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz 2019 and the French FWT 585 Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2019. Naturally, Penfolds Max’s will also be available throughout the evening.
Best of all, Penfolds has confirmed that masterclass tickets are on offer, providing patrons with a guided tasting with a Penfolds winemaker of seven wines from The Penfolds Collection 2022 – including Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2020 (affectionately known as ‘Baby Grange’), Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling 2022, Bin 311 Chardonnay 2021, and Bin 23 Pinot Noir 2021. The Lunar Experience is priced at AUD$119, with the Orbital Experience priced at AUD$149. Get ready to blast off, friends.
