Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs 2010 Wins at CSWWC 2022

For the second year in a row, Dom Ruinart has been crowned the ‘best Champagne in the World’ at the annual Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. The winner, Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs 2010, follows last year’s winner, a bottle of Dom Ruinart Rosé 2004 magnum in taking out the top spot. However, it also walks away as the Supreme World Champion and Best French Sparkling Wine.

“This award pays homage to the visionary spirit of the men and women who have contributed, over time, to the excellence of our wines, from the vine to the cellars,” said Frédéric Panaoitis, Cellar Master at Maison Ruinart.

Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs 2010 is particularly special because of the choice to reintroduce cork-ageing for the Maison’s 2010 prestige vintage. It was a tough year for the grapes with variations in climate, however, an unexpected aromatic complexity was found, with all three expert judges, Tom Stevenson, Essi Avellan MW and György Márkus, marking the bottle as a very special release.

The abandonment of the metal crown in 2010 was also joined by ageing the bottles on lees for longer, a process that releases sugar and proteins into the wine. In the 10 years that the wine took to reach its full potential, it was carefully supervised during rest in the depths of the Maison’s chalk cellars in Reims. As a result of that work, being awarded best Champagne in the world, Supreme World Champion and Best French Sparkling Wine must be made all the more special.

As expected, Dom Ruinart Blanc De Blancs 2010 is a hard bottle to come by, and you should expect to pay north of AUD$500 for a bottle. We’ve found the bottle at Master of Malt via the link below.
