New Movies on Disney+
When it comes to new movies, Disney+ isn’t always the first port of call. And, yeah, this month the streamer hasn’t added many new full-length feature films. They are, however, adding a few ‘specials’ which will detail a few rides at Disneyland, if you’re into that.
ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires
Release Date: 11 July 2025
What began with an unaired TV show pilot about the relationship between a zombie football player and a human cheerleader has since blossomed into a musical film franchise. In the latest instalment, zombie athlete Zed and cheerleader Addison embark on a summer road trip. Upon taking an unexpected detour, they find themselves on the opposite sides of a supernatural rivalry between daywalkers and vampires. Fire it up if you’re a fan, but we’re going to watch 28 Years Later instead.
Transformers Franchise
Release Date: 16 July 2025
The Transformers franchise (up to Bumblebee) arrives on Disney+ this July, giving you the perfect chance to test out your entertainment system. After all, these blockbusters are nothing if not deluges of sound and sight with some threadbare story elements tossed in for good measure. It’s not exactly more than meets the eye under the direction of Michael Bay, but who’s complaining? For anyone who doesn’t know the drill: vehicular alien robots land on Earth and then duke it out in explosive style. And now you’re all caught up!
New Series on Disney+
If you are looking for the best new shows on Disney+, you have come to the right place. New and returning series are the main attraction this month, with the much-anticipated return of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia alongside the release of Washington Black headlining this month’s viewing schedule. Here are the best new series on Disney+ to put on your watchlist.
FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 17
Release Date: 16 July 2025
The sociopathic owners of Paddy’s Pub are still wreaking havoc across the city of Philadelphia, and we’re here for it! In Season 17, the Gang is as greedy and narcissistic as ever, but also getting in touch with their human side. Follow along as the lovably crude characters look for love and respect in all the wrong ways and places. The season kicks off with a hotly anticipated crossover episode with Abbott Elementary.
Washington Black
Release Date: 23 July 2025
This historical drama miniseries takes place in the 19th century and tells the story of young prodigy George Washington “Wash” Black (Ernest Kingsley Junior). Born on a Barbados sugar plantation, Wash flees at the age of 11 and sets off on a globe-spanning adventure. It’s based on the award-winning novel by Canadian author Esi Edugyan. Sterling K. Brown co-stars.
America’s Funniest Home Videos: Seasons 13-15
Release Date: 17 July 2025
Two things that American culture will never run out of? Ridiculous behaviour and the impulse to catch that behaviour on camera. Put them together and you have the recipe for this ongoing series, in which regular people submit their embarrassing home videos for public consumption. But to all the loyal viewers out there, we do have to ask: you have heard of the Internet, right?
Snowfall: Seasons 1-6
Release Date: 2 July 2025
We hopped aboard this gripping crime series during the first season and rode it out for the next few, but then slowly lost interest. Set during the 1980s, it chronicles the Los Angeles crack epidemic through the exploits of an ambitious drug dealer (Damson Idris) and a ruthless CIA Agent (Carter Hudson). Should we pick up where we left off and see the story through to its dramatic conclusion? Let us know!
New Disney+ Documentaries, Reality & Sports
With a limited run of releases this month, Disney+ has reduced the number of its documentaries. Here are the best new documentaries on Disney+ in July 2025, along with some reality hits.
Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story
Release Date: 11 July 2025
Hot take alert! Jaws is Steven Spielberg’s best film in that it checks every box and works as well now as it did 50 years ago. This brand-new documentary revisits the 1975 blockbuster – one of the biggest game-changers in Hollywood history – to reveal a production that almost sank before it swam. Go behind the scenes as Spielberg grapples with impossible challenges while creating his timeless masterpiece. In addition to archival footage, it features interviews with top filmmakers and shark experts alike. This one sounds like a true feast for the fans, so bring your appetite!
SHARKFEST (Sharks of the North, Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory, Investigation Shark Attack)
Release Date: 6 July 2025
Looking to whet your proverbial palate before the Jaws documentary? By all means, sink your teeth into SHARKFEST! Produced by National Geographic, the programming event gets up close and personal with the real thing by way of various specials. Follow it up with a Sharknado retrospective and you’ll be good for the year.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Reunion Special
Release Date: 1 July 2025
Mormon wives were going crazy on TikTok and apparently keeping it a secret from their community. Well, the secret is out because we’re two seasons into this popular reality series. Join host Nick Viall for the first-ever reunion special, which features never-before-seen footage and a surprise announcement.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Release Date: 5 July 2025
Forget the Iron Man competition or the World Cup; a hot dog-eating contest is where you’ll find the real human feats of strength! So goes this annual event, which gathers talented eaters for an epic showdown of face-stuffing proportions. To give you an idea of what’s in store: 2024 men’s champion Patrick Bertoletti ate a whopping 58 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Weekend viewing doesn’t get much better than this, folks.
Born To be Viral: The Real Lives of Kidfluencers
Release Date: 9 July 2025
This docuseries peels back the curtain on kidfluencing to reveal the triumphs and tragedies of our modern age. Each episode focuses on young influencers and their families, who share their lives with the world and often make bundles of money in the process. But at what cost? One might ask. Tune in for some answers.

Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari
Release Date: 21 July 2025
Dentist Larry Rudolph claims he “accidentally” shot and killed his wife during an African hunting trip in 2016. Less accidental was the subsequent insurance payout, which earned him $5 million and eventual fraud charges. Oh, and did we mention the mistress? This true crime series goes over the case in all its sordid detail.
Things to Consider for Disney+
When it comes to Disney+, the streamer has no shortage of amazing series, documentaries and movies to watch, but how does it compare to Netflix and Prime Video? To make things easier, we’ve put together a few key considerations to keep in mind the next time you visit the streaming service.
Is There Anything for Adults on Disney+?
Despite being a largely children-led streaming platform, Disney+ is also home to an extensive catalogue of films and series for adults. In Australia, the streamer has the rights to channels such as Discovery, Hulu and Star, giving you access to a host of true crime documentaries and scripted series such as All That We Destroy, Pam & Tommy and many more.
Are There Any R-rated movies on Disney+?
In recent years, Disney+ has added more R-rated titles to attract adult subscribers. At present, the streaming service boasts R-rated films such as Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan, with the streaming platform likely to increase its portfolio in the coming months.
Disney+ vs Netflix
While Netflix has a larger range of new original content, Disney+ is loaded with nostalgic classics and time-honoured favourites, so there is certainly a case to be made that the streaming platform is the top option. If you have kids, Disney+ is the obvious choice, but can also be a boost for adults, due to the streamer’s connections with Hulu and Star.
