Indiana Jones is Still Hunting Nazis in New ‘Dial of Destiny’ Trailer

Indy’s ready to give the Nazis real hell in the latest trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The brief teaser, which debuted during Super Bowl LVII, is largely a repackaged version of the first trailer, with a few new scenes and imagery thrown into the mix. We get to see a little bit more of Harrison Ford‘s younger version of Indy, Mads Mikkelsen’s Voller and Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Helena. While exact plot details still remain unknown, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be set in 1969 and centre around Indy, who finds himself up against his old arch-enemies when he discovers that several ex-Nazis had some shady involvement with the ongoing space race.

Despite lacking new content, this 30-second Super Bowl trailer does a great job of setting up the stakes for our protagonist, while also revealing his older ties with Mikkelsen’s Voller. The teaser shows Indiana Jones catching up with Voller and later saying, “My memories are a little fuzzy… Are you still a Nazi?” The dialogue is coupled with a flashback scene which shows a much younger Indy punching Mikkelsen’s Voller in the face. Oouf!

Elsewhere in the trailer, Indy can be seen bullwhipping some henchmen, riding horses through a city parade and jumping between speeding tuk-tuk rickshaws. The trailer ends with Indy and his goddaughter Helena jumping out of a burning plane in mid-air to parachute back to safety. The upcoming Indiana Jones 5 movie will contain several flashback sequences, featuring a de-aged Ford to reveal how Indy crossed paths with the villainous Voller.

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ford revealed that he wasn’t a fan of the whole de-aging technology at first. “I never loved the idea until I saw how it was accomplished in this case — which is very different than the way it’s been done in other films I’ve seen,” he expressed. “They’ve got every frame of film, either printed or unprinted, of me during 40 years of working with Lucasfilm on various stuff. I can act the scene and they sort through with AI every fucking foot of film to find me in that same angle and light. It’s bizarre and it works and it is my face.”

This fifth instalment will be the first movie in the franchise not to be directed by Steven Spielberg, with James Mangold helming the project. With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hitting theatres on June 30, 2023, we can’t wait to reunite with our globetrotting archeologist and learn about what he’s been up to.
