The World’s Biggest Air Jordan Auction is Headed to New York

Today’s sneakerheads see Air Jordan’s in the same way Europe saw Da Vinci’s art during the Renaissance. The latest sale is entitled Original Air Takes Flight: The Evolution and Influence of Air Jordan Sneakers. With 90 pairs on offer, Original Air Part II, presents an extensive range highlighting Jordan’s impact on footwear, featuring game-worn sneakers, samples and prototypes from the Air Jordan brand’s beginnings, rare exclusives, and pairs worn by Jordan’s teammates and competitors.

The highlights begin with a selection of early development prototypes and sample pairs, which were pivotal in shaping the DNA of the Air Jordan brand. This includes both Air Jordan 1 & 2 samples from 1985-1986, and are currently priced anywhere between AUD$155,000-AUD$200,000. Another item that will be in high demand is the one-of-a-kind original Air Jordan 1 salesman sample from 1984, and is currently set to fetch anywhere between AUD$28,000-AUD$32,000. According to Christie’s, a Nike rep used this pair to promote the first-ever signature Jordan shoe, making it an iconic piece of sneaker folklore.

Furthermore, there are numerous sneakers up for auction worn by the GOAT himself. This includes the Air Jordan 11 “Concord,” Air Jordan 12 “Taxi,” Air Jordan 13 “He Got Game,” and Air Jordan 17. Footwear signed by teammate BJ Armstrong and competitor Charles Barkley are also up for grabs. Other standouts include sneaker samples from celebrities like Eminem and Drake.

You can check out the highlights from the “Original Air Part II” auction on the official Christie’s website and viewing room now. From June 4 to 9, the full selection will preview at Christie’ New York with additional viewings of select items from June 9 to 30. Biddings will commence from June 22 until June 30.
