A new month means a schedule of new game releases to swoon over. Sure, you’re probably concerned about the cost of fuel, groceries or living in general. But how do you unwind if not by blasting zombies, kaiju or LEGO Stormtroopers into pieces? This month lacks the AAA releases of March and February, but there are still plenty of fantastic games, including some awesome indies. You can find all of this below in our top new games list for April 2022, along with release dates for pretty much everything dropping digitally and in stores.

1. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Star Wars once again receives a LEGO makeover cramming content from all nine saga films into one big, humorous adventure. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features hundreds of playable characters, including your favourite Jedi, Sith, and bounty hunters. Pilot familiar crafts and visit all the memorable locations from the iconic film franchise. LEGO Star Wars is a family-friendly experience designed for all ages functioning as an accessible entry point for newcomers with enough content, and deep gameplay to appease even the most seasoned gamer. The force is strong with this one.

2. Nintendo Switch Sports

Remember Wii Sports? Well, it’s back, for Switch. Nintendo Switch Sports brings Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, and Chambara (swordplay) to your screens with full motion controls to wave, swing, and parry your Joy-Cons. Hopefully without breaking screens in the process. Plus, Golf is expected to arrive in a free update later this year. Play your favs one-on-one, in teams, or free for all. Bowling can be played by everyone simultaneously, so there’s no waiting for your turn. Nintendo Switch Sports supports online play with random matchmaking for unlocking exclusive outfits, accessories and gear for your avatar.

3. The House of the Dead Remake

The House of the Dead Remake revies the classic 90’s arcade hit for Nintendo Switch. The on-rails shooter will feel familiar to anyone who enjoyed the original, while an entourage of upgrades makes it a natural fit for release in 2022. Aim your Joy-Cons at the TV and blast the undead hordes playing solo or with a friend. Whether you’re looking to revisit a classic or experience it for the first time, The House of the Dead plays an essential part in gaming history and helps define a genre that’s been surprisingly absent through recent years.

4. MLB The Show 22

MLB The Show 22 introduces you to a richer and more immersive baseball experience than what’s come before. 5. Kaiju Wars

Following a short delay, Kaiju Wars is finally ready to play out your monster movie fantasies. You play as the mayor, using everything at your disposal to fend off devastating Kaiju attacks in this 2D strategy game. Park tanks and jets in the monster’s path to slow it down. Construct sacrificial bases to distract the creatures and deploy experimental weapons to stop all five of the discerning Kaiji. There’s an eight-hour campaign to play and then the tools to create your own scenarios and a versus mode where one player takes on the Kaiju, and the other defends. This month, Kaiju Wars launches for PC with PS, Xbox and Switch versions expected later this year.

6. Chinatown Detective Agency

Chinatown Detective Agency revives the classic point and click adventure with modern mechanics and retro graphics. You’re a PI in a neon-lit Singapore taking on cases to make bank. Visit over 100 locations searching for leads and questioning witnesses with mysterious agendas. You’ll even leave the game and conduct online searches for additional clues. Time and money are precious resources. Every choice affects the world around you. Can you save the city from panic before going bankrupt? Chinatown Detective Agency has a free prologue that you can check out on Steam.

General FAQ

What games are coming out in April 2022?

Some of the most anticipated games include LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Nintendo Switch Sports, MLB The Show 22, Kaiju Wars, the Chrono Cross revival and The House of The Dead Remake.

Is Golf included in Nintendo Switch Sports?

Yes, and no. Golf will not be available for the game's launch on April 29, 2022. Instead, Nintendo stated that Golf would be added to the game in Fall 2022, or quarter three of this year.

When is Forspoken coming out?

The upcoming action game from Square ENIX was recently delayed from May to October 11, 2022. Announcing the delay via Twitter, the developer Luminous Productions stated that the additional five months would be used to polish the game and achieve their vision of a title that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come.
