Uniqlo U FW2020 Collection Rewrites the ‘Future LifeWear’ Rulebook

Uniqlo has announced the upcoming U Collection for Fall/ Winter 2020. This sought after collection features updated classics that convey warmth and cosiness for the modern man. Led by artistic director Christophe Lemaire and his team in Paris, Uniqlo U has been writing the rules for “Future LifeWear Essentials” by utilising innovative materials and new, contemporary silhouettes. The same can be said for this season, where the energy of European youth street culture and classic sportswear influences are seen in boxy silhouettes and oversized proportions.

The Paris R&D Center for Uniqlo is spear-heading this collection and complements its counterparts in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, and Los Angeles respectively. Here, the design team is led by Christophe Lemaire who most recently served as artistic director of Lacoste and artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear at Hermès. In 2016 he was appointed artistic director of the UNIQLO Paris R&D Center, where he and his handpicked team of designers create the Uniqlo U collection.
For the FW 2020 Campaign, neutrals mix with elegant highlight tones to balance black, white, and dark blue. Burnt orange and Bordeaux red provide accents. And textured surfaces such as corduroy, wool-blend fleece, and wool jersey offer a greater sense of comfort. Most prominent in the padded corduroy blouson, where the casual rounded silhouette offers sophisticated warmth. One of the most sophisticated pieces in the collection would be the boxy half coat, which features an oversized collar and front storm placket for added windproof performance. Perfect for everyday wear is the soft brushed fleece that gives a shirt jacket an inner-outer model of versatility. And the modern cropped jacket provides thermal warmth in wool-blend fleece.
The full Uniqlo U Fall/Winter 2020 Collection will launch on Thursday 25th March online and in-store at the following locations; Emporium, Chadstone, MidCity, Bondi, Macquarie Centre, Parramatta, Chatswood, Perth Murray St and Carousel.
